Before you drop a file
Is it really free? What's the catch?
There isn't one. Your own phone or computer does the work, so each file costs us almost nothing. That's why there's no daily limit, no watermark and no ads. Later we'll add a few tools that need a server, like Word to PDF. If any of those cost money, the page will say so before you start, and nothing renews by itself.
How can I check that my file isn't uploaded?
On a computer, open your browser's developer tools (F12 on Windows, Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), choose the Network tab and use any tool. You'll see the page's own code load and a few small requests to our analytics, which count which tools are used. None of them carry your file. Or, once the site has loaded, turn on airplane mode and use a tool: it still works, because there's nothing to send.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in the browser you already have, on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac, with nothing to install. If you use it often, add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
How big a file can it handle?
We don't set a limit. Your device does the work, so what matters is its memory: a laptop copes with bigger files than an older phone. If a file is too much for your device, the page tells you in plain words instead of freezing.
Do I need an account?
No, there is nothing to sign up for. If you choose to save something, like your signature or your details for forms, it stays on this device, and you can see or delete it at any time in My Pocket.
Can I convert PDF to Word?
Not yet. Converting between PDF and Word well needs a server, so those two tools are coming later. Everything else on this page works today.
